The police escort that accompanied Charlie Sheen from Virginia's Dulles Airport to Washington, D.C. for his April 19 "Torpedo of Truth" tour date violated the law by exceeding speeds of 80 mph.
Police cars traveling at such high speeds are considered "emergency vehicles" and according to documents obtained by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF), "shall be operated as emergency vehicles only in the District of Columbia, and when outside of the District of Columbia, only while engaged in the fresh pursuit of a fleeing felon." D.C.'s Homeland Security and Special Operations Division gave the okay for the high-speed police escort after Sheen landed late for the show in a private jet.
PCJF legal director Carl Messineo said, "No only is the MPD apparently using D.C. taxpayer resources to act as a private security service for celebrities, in so doing they are risking the lives of the residents of D.C. and the surrounding region."
Sheen tweeted a picture of his police escort (seen above) with the comments "In car with Police escort in front and rear! driving like someone's about to deliver a baby! Cop car lights spinning!" The post has since been deleted.
Sheen joked about running for president and discussed his custody battle at the D.C. leg of his show.
